Code of Conduct

RVA Swing & I Heart Balboa strive to create a welcoming and safe environment for all students, regardless of their age, skill level, race, religion, body size, gender identity, or sexual orientation.  Basically, we want everyone to have a good time and to enjoy the fun of social dance in a physically and emotionally safe environment.

We ask that anyone who attends classes or events that we host to follow these basic guidelines.

First & foremost: treat your fellow dancers, and your instructors, with kindness and respect:

--Please do not offer unsolicited advice to fellow dancers either in class or on the social dance floor. We are all here to learn together, but only the instructors are here to teach.

--Please use your full range of senses on the dance floor to avoid accidental collisions and injuries. It is every dancer's responsibility to be aware of their own and their partner's movement and position, as well as the movement and position of the dancers surrounding them, in order to avoid accidents and injuries.

--Please be respectful to our teaching & event staff, even if you are experiencing a personal frustration.

--Please refrain from talking when the instructor is talking to the class.

--Please respect your fellow students' right to learn the dance role of their choice.

--Please respect your instructors guidance in regards to your class level.

RVA Swing/I Heart Balboa will not tolerate any form of harassment and reserves the right to remove disruptive students/attendees without a refund.

Harassment can include offensive verbal comments (related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion), sexual language/images/invitations, deliberate intimidation, stalking/following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of workshops or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

If you experience or witness any form of harassment, please inform any staff member or email us at RVAswing@gmail.com.

Our head Safe Spaces contact is Anna Tuckwiller, but every member of the I Heart Balboa staff is available to you should you need to report a person or situation.
